Industrial environmental monitoring

According to Article 128 of the Environmental Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Altai Oil Refinery carries out industrial environmental control, the objectives of which are: a system of measures implemented by the user of natural resources to monitor the state of the environment and its changes under the influence of economic and other activities, verification of the implementation of plans and measures for the protection and improvement of the environment, the reproduction and rational use of natural resources, compliance with environmental legislation, environmental quality standards and environmental requirements, including industrial monitoring, accounting, reporting, documentation of results, as well as measures to eliminate identified non-conformities in the field of environmental protection.

Industrial environmental monitoring of the enterprise's economic activities is conducted based on the Industrial Environmental Monitoring (IEM) Program, as well as schedules for analytical monitoring of atmospheric air and wastewater. The IEM Program covers the following types of monitoring:

• the state of the atmospheric air at the industrial site, sanitary protection zone (SPZ), solid industrial waste landfill of the plant, evaporation ponds of the left-bank part of Atyrau;
• the state of industrial emissions from the chimneys of the plant's process furnaces;
• quality of wastewater discharged from the plant;
• the state of groundwater from the plant's observation wells located at the industrial site, the plant's solid industrial waste landfill, the flare unit, and the evaporation field;
• the condition of the soil and vegetation at the industrial site, the evaporation field of the left-bank part of Atyrau, and the plant’s solid industrial waste landfill;
• radiation safety on the territory of the industrial site, sanitary protection zone, in the area of ​​the evaporation field of the left-bank part of the city of Atyrau, the industrial waste disposal site and in the domestic and administrative premises of the plant;
• industrial control of physical factors (noise and vibration) at the boundary of the plant's sanitary protection zone.

The PEC data are sent quarterly in the form of a report to the Department of Ecology of the Atyrau Region.
